Rooftops and Gardens

A chance to catch up with the blogging as I'm stuck at home sick today :(

Since the end of Session A last weekend, things have gotten busier. I was moved up to the advanced language class, meaning that I've had more work to do and had less time for adventures. But I figure that's okay, because the language classes *are* the reason I came to start with. And I do feel that I'm learning a lot more than I was in the class I was in before. And I have been able to make time for a few outings all the same.

Last Thursday I joined in an after-class excursion to go to the top of St. Olha and Elizabeth's church. Though I've been to that church many times, I've not been up into its tower. It was a short climb, but the view was lovely.

The weekend was also eventful. Saturday was my birthday, but unfortunately most of my friends were out of town. I settled for sleeping in, going into town for some cake, and meeting up later with my friend Mariya for some dinner, followed by dessert at the chocolate factory.

Mariya gave me these earrings as a birthday present. They are made from a stone specifically intended for Cancers, and supposedly they give you good luck with the opposite sex. I joked with her that we'd see how well that worked out. ;)
On the way home, Mariya took me by L'viv University's pleasant little Botanic Gardens.

Bet you never knew there were palm trees in Ukraine, did you??

Although it would've been more fun to have my friends still here, it definitely wasn't the worst birthday I've ever had. And the next day was even better, because... castles!!!!!
